It certainly must have been a memorable occasion. Excitement was all around me. My college seminar hall was well lit up and ventilated. The Air conditioner which never worked was putting everyone into surprise. I could see Giridaran sir (My Lab in charge) carrying the projector to the seminar hall. He smiled as he went past me. Students were flooding through the entrance of the seminar hall. Girls were wearing sarees and boys were seen in corporate attire.
Minutes later I was walking into the seminar hall. On my either side were principal Mr. Balasubramanium and CTS Ashok Varadharajan. Ashok Varadharajan was guest of honour for the occasion. Department head Prof. Nalini Joseph was leading us. The moment I stepped in, the entire crowd stood up with respect.
I took my seat in the stage along with the dignitaries. First to speak to the gathering was HOD. “Today we are celebrating 66th day since the launch of Anand’s blog, http://anandsathya.blogspot.com” started my HOD as her voice echoed through the crowed. You giggled on hearing this. “Jokes apart” she shouted back at you and then, she continued describing the blog, its creation and its way through.
Next part of the event was lighting of the kuthuvilakku. Being a new celebrity, I didn’t even know how to pose for the photographer. And again, it was age-old custom and tradition in my department, to snap anything that ranged from ordinary to nothing. This juncture was no different. Instructions were to click all that the photographer can and pin them into the notice board.
Half an hour went by. Now it was the guest of honour who was facing the audience. He was supposed to read a few good lines from my blog. But he was unfortunate, that he stammered. The audiences were amused. The thing was - my blog contained spelling mistakes. Poor guy, he didn’t know to take grip over the situation.
A flash presentation was played as a part of the event. (It didn’t work this time too. No surprise there) Audience enjoyed the hot and delicious samosa which was served. As everyone dispersed to the classes, I saw few of my friends carrying the lab systems to the fifth floor. I meant the roof top.
I initially assumed that it was for a photograph on the roof top, considering the department legacy. But the system monitors showed mozilla fire-fox with my blog wide open. The title bar read Anand - A Rainmaker in the waiting. The task bar showed a running winamp skin. I widened my ears to hear what it was. It was playing a piece from Ratchagan album.
“kaiyil midhakkum kanavaa nee,kai kaal muLaiththa kaatraa nee,kaiyil yaendhiyum ganakkavillaye,nurayaal seidha…silayaa nee…”
Behind them were a few more students climbing their way to the roof top. But then, these people were carrying HOD’s laptop. This screen too showed my home page and the same background score. I closely followed them. BANG!! I heard the systems and laptop crash. These gadgets must have fallen right from the fifth floor onto the ground. What I last heard was their devilish laugh. They had finally taken revenge. Revenge for everything I did. I couldn’t avert the harm, for it was already done.
12 kilometers from the place of wreck I woke up with a start. (Perhaps, the same kind of start that Rowling gave to her fans in part 4) I decided to pen down a few good lines to my readers. This is what I managed to…
Enjoy whatever you wanted do.
Live life to the fullest.
Keep smiling.
